WE LOVE PIZZA AND MACHINES
The idea began years ago while watching a pizza commercial with my kids. The commercial was promoting better hot bags to improve delivery. The thought occurred to me: why not make the pizza on the way to the customer and have a hot, fresh pizza right out of the oven when it arrives?
I researched the idea, added it to my idea list, and eventually decided to see how far I could take it. Research quickly uncovered well-funded competitors and existing patents. I was still just a guy in a garage, but the idea persisted.
I studied pizza equipment, food automation, patents and competitors. I attended Pizza Expos, talked with experts, took pizza-making classes, made pizza from scratch, and watched pizzerias closely. Then I created a system schematic, identified the biggest challenges and started working through them one by one.
There were many wrong ways to make a pizza hands-free. The process became design, refine, build, test and repeat. Eventually the individual pieces worked well enough to integrate into a complete automated system.
I remember the first pizza that came out of the oven. I burned my mouth, but it was delicious. More importantly, the machine had demonstrated that it could repeatedly produce a great pizza on demand.
Today, Kenaz Designs is applying those lessons to the Pie-Bot X2 prototype, with greater emphasis on reliability, manufacturability and real-world deployment.
